The seminary roof is constructed with double barrel concrete tiles. Fascia is masonry backed and faced with porcelain tile. Copper flashing and gutters detail the exterior face. The main grand entry is built with curtain wall and finished with a suspended porcelain tile system.

John Paul II Pastoral Center, Denver, CO

Client  Archdiocese of Denver, Denver, CO
Architect  David Owen Tryba, Denver, CO

Project description

The new John Paul II Pastoral Center is located on the 40-acre campus formerly home to St. Thomas Seminary. Twelve separate buildings have been repurposed, starting with the renovation of a 54,000 square-foot three-floor dormitory into an energy-efficient modern office building. The project involved extensive demolition, construction of low-wall partitions to invite more natural light, specialty drywall finishes and reveals and an oak floor with a walnut-inlaid, custom-illuminated cross. Raising the ceiling of the basement hallway created much-needed volume and space. A four-story stair tower was constructed, with soaring windows overlooking the central courtyard and historic chapel. The building’s south elevation was transformed through extensive site work and construction of a new entryway. Throughout the project, brick was matched carefully to blend with the original building and the surrounding campus.
