Project description
New construction of a 28,000 square foot market located at the corner of West 38th Avenue and Wolff Street in Highlands Garden Village. This LEED Silver Certified building entailed in-depth coordination in the design process for the core and shell. Palace devoted a full-time, LEED Accredited engineer to the commissioning process of this building. Palace was involved in the sustainable design charrette where many elements were included in the final design and construction. Reflective thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roof eliminated the heat island effect from the exterior closure. Day lighting incorporated large glass areas and interior solar tubes. Low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints and sealants were used in all finishes. On-site storm water detention was carefully planned for the entire 15 acre development site. A segment of the parking lot was completed with previous materials to recharge the aquifer. The parking lot devoted 5% of the parking spaces for low emissions vehicles and car pooling. All exterior lighting incorporated the use of ninety degree down lights to encourage enhanced night skies.

This 2,424 square-foot restaurant in the new Aurora City Place Mall is the first of 20 such projects slated by the California restaurant chain over the next five years. The site featured an existing core shell and floor, but no plumbing, requiring Palace to chute and remove the slab prior so plumbing could be placed. Steel frame sheetrock interior walls, electrical and HVAC were installed. The finished structure features an exposed ceiling with stained concrete floor in the dining area and ceramic tile and drop ceiling in the kitchen and preparation areas.
