The Center for African American Health
DESCRIPTION
The Center for African American Health project renovated the first floor of an existing two-story office building to create a welcoming environment focused on nutrition education and health services. The renovation included a demonstration space for healthy food, equipped with residential-style kitchen appliances, accessible to both instructors and students. This area connects to an adjacent training and event space, which opens to the backyard, supporting indoor-outdoor programming. Across the hall, a clinic-style health consultation area was established to accommodate medical screenings, private consultations, and visits from healthcare providers. This suite includes a reception and waiting area, staff offices, private consultation rooms with handwashing sinks, and a dedicated patient restroom. Additional improvements included new flooring throughout the first floor and main stairwell, replacement of the existing elevator, and construction of raised planter beds in the backyard for use during healthy food instruction.
